Kolhapur Ganesh Immersion : The immersion procession in Kolhapur was held for 28 hours… continuous blare of Dolby… flashing laser lights and 30 hours of police presence. A lot of people came to see this procession. Due to this, many times stampedes, circles and talamis were seen on the main road.
The lack of a strong stand by the police against the circles led to a continuous uproar in Dalby. After Dalby was closed at midnight, the activists slept on the streets and resumed the next morning at six o’clock and the procession resumed. On the other hand, Mahaganpani in Shivaji Chowk was also immersed in excitement.
Not a single idol is immersed in Panchganga, the municipal system is functioning continuously
The municipal administration had appealed to domestic and public bodies to complement the environment of this year’s Ganeshotsav. For this, artificial immersion ponds were kept at various places in the city on behalf of the Municipal Corporation. This initiative received a spontaneous response from the people of Kolhapur.
161 Ganesha idols were offered by public mandals at the place of artificial immersion tank during the public immersion procession. Responding to the Municipal Corporation’s call for offering idols, the public bodies offered 161 idols to the environment, while 920 Ganesha idols were immersed by the public bodies themselves. Not a single idol was immersed in the Panchganga. 1081 Ganesha idols offered to the Municipal Corporation and dissolved by public bodies were immersed in the Irani mine. Dr Kadambari Balakwade, President of all Public Boards, Administrator of Representatives expressed his gratitude for conducting the immersion procession peacefully.
All the officers, health, sanitation, electrical staff, medical team, self-help group, White Army, Maharashtra Force, Jeevan Jyot Sanghagan, Hamal, crane driver took special efforts to carry out this immersion properly. The administrator expressed his sincere thanks to all of them for working round the clock for two consecutive days.
Along with this, 1273 household idols were offered in 25 artificial immersion cisterns kept under the divisional office.
All the systems were kept ready by the Municipal Corporation at the place of discharge and on the discharge route. The roads on the immersion procession route were repaired. Encroachments and other obstacles were removed. Wooden and strong bamboo and as necessary iron barricades and watch towers were erected on the immersion route. Light was arranged at the immersion site. Barricading, watch towers and police pendals were erected around Irani and side mines for protection.
12 CCTV cameras were installed at Irani mine and Tambat Kaman. The health department was cleaning the spill site immediately. Medical teams were appointed here. Arrangements were made to deploy a vigilance team of the fire brigade, security guards with necessary equipment at the immersion site through the fire department. 13 rafts and 4 cranes and 430 porters were arranged at Irani Khan for the immersion of Ganesha idol. Identity card has been made mandatory for employees. Notices were given to dangerous buildings along the procession route.
32 M. Tons came to the disposal site from the Health Department during the discharge. Nirmalya was collected by 8 dumpers.
