Lumpy Skin Outbreak In 19 Districts Of The State, Animal Markets Closed

Lumpy Skin Disease: Currently, the risk of lumpy skin disease is increasing in animals in the state. That’s why the cattle breeders are worried. Lumpy disease has been reported in 19 districts of the state. Therefore, precautionary steps are being taken by the state government. Animal markets in the state will remain completely closed. Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil has also informed that animal transportation has been banned in the state and outside the state. Kolhapur Collector Rahul Rekhawar has issued instructions to keep animal markets and fairs closed until further orders.

Meanwhile, in view of the increasing risk of Lumpy Skin, immediate vaccination of animals has been given. For this, guidance is being taken from the central government. Lumpy disease has been reported in 19 districts of the state. Due to this, the administration has become alert. Lumpy skin disease has been detected in animals in Ahmednagar, Jalgaon, Akola, Dhule, Pune, Aurangabad, Latur and Beed districts of the state. After the Indian states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi, this disease has also been reported in Maharashtra. 850 animals are suffering from lumpy skin disease in Maharashtra. Out of them 590 animals have been cured so far and the remaining animals are undergoing treatment. The animal husbandry department has informed that 10 animals have died in the entire state so far. At present 67 animals have got this disease in Ahmednagar district and preventive measures are being taken by Animal Husbandry Department.

In Parner taluka of Ahmednagar district, Lumpy skin disease animals have been found to be infected. Vaccination has been undertaken by Animal Husbandry Department. Due to this, some farmers informed that the administration is succeeding in preventing this disease on time.

In this disease, water comes from the eyes and nose of animals
Animals develop fever after lumpy infestation
Animals eat fodder, drink water less
Gradually, tumors appear on the head, neck, mayang, chest
Ulcers in the eyes lead to crusting, and also affect the vision of the eyes
There is swelling on the feet and behind the ears
Animals give less milk

As Lumpy is a contagious disease, preventive vaccination is necessary
Proper cleanliness of animal sheds should be maintained
Healthy animals should be segregated from infected animals
Cows and buffaloes should not be kept together
If symptoms occur, contact a doctor immediately and start treatment
Separate arrangements should be made for drinking water and also for grazing of affected animals
If the infected animals die, they should be buried in a pit at least 8 to 9 feet deep and disposed of
Lime powder should be sprinkled under and over dead animals

Lumpy skin disease is a viral skin disease affecting cattle only. Lumpy skin disease is transmitted by insects. That is why it is necessary for animal breeders to take proper care of their animals. Nitin Gadilkar said.
