The FIR has been registered against Sarvankar, his son, Santosh Telvane and others under the Arms Act, and also for rioting.
The simmering tensions between Shiv Sainiks of the Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde faction came out in the open at Prabhadevi and Dadar over the last two days after sainiks of the two factions came face to face while taking their Ganesh idol for the immersion on the final day on Friday.
According to witnesses, the two groups shouted slogans at each other. However, the presence of police ensured the groups were quickly separated.
Meanwhile, on Saturday night, Santosh Telvane of the Shinde faction lodged a complaint with the Dadar police against 25 Shiv Sainiks alleging that his gold chain was stolen by members of the rival faction who had come to attack him.
Whereas, the Shiv Sena protested the arrest of its party workers and claimed that Sarvankar fired in the air in the premises of the Dadar police station.
On Sunday morning, as news of the arrest of Shiv sainiks spread, party workers, including women members, gathered outside the Dadar police station shouting slogans.
South Mumbai MP Arvind Sawant, Ambadas Danve and Anil Parab who rushed to the spot demanded that the police file a complaint against Sarvankar under the Arms Act and release arrested party workers.
Meanwhile, banners of Sarvankar were torn down and his office was reportedly pelted with stones.
