Presidential Election 2022: Former Governor of Jharkhand and NDA Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu (Draupadi Murmu) will file nomination papers at Parliament House at 12 noon today. Top NDA leaders, including PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and several state chief ministers, will be present.
Draupadi Murmu’s nomination paper for the post of President was signed at the residence of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi as the proposer and supporter. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has become the first proposer in Draupadi Murmu’s candidature. “I am fortunate to have the opportunity to sign the nomination papers of Reverend Mrs. Draupadi Murmu, the first woman from the tribal community in India and the second woman Presidential candidate in the country,” he tweeted.
YSRCP’s support to Murmu
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has also expressed support for Draupadi Murmu. However, Murmu will not be present in person while filing his candidature. He will be replaced by Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Sai Reddy and party Lok Sabha leader Midhun Reddy.
Who is Draupadi Murmu?
NDA candidate Murmu was born on June 20, 1958 in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. Draupadi Murmu started her political career as a corporator. She later became the Vice President of the Rairangpur National Advisory Council. In 2013, she became a national executive member of the party’s ST front. Earlier, Draupadi Murmu was the Minister of State for Fisheries and Animal Resources Development in Odisha from August 6, 2002 to May, during the coalition government of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Biju Janata Dal, with independent charge of Commerce and Transport from 2000-2002.
Draupadi Murmu was elected MLA from Rayarangpur Assembly constituency of Odisha in 2000 and 2004. Later in 2015, he was appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand. She is the first woman to be sworn in as the Governor of Jharkhand. She has also become the first woman tribal leader to be appointed as a governor. Meanwhile, after being elected, Draupadi Murmu will be India’s first tribal president and second woman president. He will also be the first president from Odisha. He has worked in politics and social service for almost two decades.
