PUNE: The Wakad police on Monday registered a case of accidental death, after an eight-year-old boy was found dead, hanging from a window grille in a small room on the ground floor of a Thergaon apartment on Sunday evening.
A doll was also found hanging in a similar way alongside the victim, the police said.
Senior inspector Satyawan Mane told TOI, “The boy’s father is a watchman in the same building and has been living in the one-room house, along with his wife and three children. The parents are from Nepal. On Sunday afternoon, the boy was playing with dolls when his parents stepped out for a while to attend some work. His younger siblings were playing outside the room.”
Mane said the mother, on returning home, found the boy hanging from the window grille. “The boy had covered his face with a piece of cloth,” he said. Mane added that when they visited the spot, they found a doll hanging from the grille in the same way. “The doll’s face, too, was covered with a piece of cloth,” Mane said.
“The possibility of an accidental hanging while playing cannot be ruled out. After hanging the doll from the grille, the boy may have tried to hang himself from the grille in a similar manner and may have choked to death. His parents said he was addicted to horror films on cellphone,” he said.
