These people are marching towards Parliament. Tear gas, on the other hand, was used to control the angry mob. Protesters have also blocked army vehicles. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has fled the country and reached the Maldives. The Sri Lankan Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed Gotabaya’s departure.

Defense officials say Rajapaksa had requested them for the plane last night. Rajapaksa is the supreme commander of the defense forces as president. Prime Minister Vikram Singh’s office has also confirmed that the President has left the country.

The Indian High Commissioner in Colombo has denied reports that India helped President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his brother Basil Rajapaksa escape. The High Commissioner said the news was baseless and that India would continue to support the people of Sri Lanka.

According to AFP, it is claimed that, according to information received from local officials, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country on a military plane this morning. An AFP report claims that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled to neighboring Maldives after large-scale protests against him.
