Panhala Fort Landslide: Panhalgad, one of the historically important forts in Maharashtra and known as the capital of Karveer Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is a source of great resentment.
Against this backdrop, former MP Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati has written a letter to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Union Archaeological Department requesting them to pay attention. Some of the bastions of the fort have collapsed and are crumbling in many places. Due to incessant rains, part of the historic wall adjacent to the four gates of Panhala fort collapsed in the evening. Last year, a part of the wall near the same place had collapsed, but due to lack of funds, the repair work was not done.
What does the letter say?
Kolhapur district has been facing floods for the last few years. The incessant rains have also threatened the existence of Panhala fort and the villagers at the foot of the fort are living in fear day and night. The collapse of the towers and ramparts has brought huge stones and floodwaters to the foothills. Unfortunately, if there are any casualties, the picture is that the administration is turning a blind eye to who is responsible for this.
Similarly, since Panhala does not have a full-time officer in charge of the Central Archaeological Department, this is the responsibility of the state government. The fort was not repaired and conserved in time, but it is feared that the historical heritage inherited from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Tararani will be destroyed. Shivpremis are expressing their displeasure over the administration and the municipality which are neglecting Panhalgad. Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati has requested that we should immediately pay attention to this and order the administration to take appropriate measures immediately.
